Temporary / Emergency Passports - Non-Machine Readable Passports (NMRP)

An Emergency Travel Document valid for three months may be issued to enable a Sri Lanka national to return to Sri Lanka in case of an emergency in the following circumstances.
- The original passport is lost / damaged / stolen
- The original passport is expired
- Who do not have a passport or a travel document and who wish to return to Sri Lanka
Temporary travel documents are valid for 03 months from the date of issue and issued for the sole purpose of returning to Sri Lanka. The applicants cannot travel to any other country by using a NMRP passport or cannot use it to obtain a visa to further stay in Ethiopia.
The applicants are required to call over at the Consular Division of this Mission in person for an interview to obtain a Temporary / Emergency Travel Document.
Documents Required
- A letter requesting an Emergency Travel Document
- Duly filled Application (IE 35)
- Complaint Form (If passport is lost)
- Expired passport or if lost copy of lost passport
- Original Birth Certificate
- Police report (If passport is lost)
- Relevant Citizenship Certificate under section 5(2) or 17 issued by the D/I&E (If the applicant is born outside Sri Lanka or a citizen by registration)
- Travel Itinerary/Air ticket (14 days ahead)
The Prescribed Fee
- If applicant produces the previous travel document – US$ 54
- If previous travel document is lost - US$ 169
Instructions for Completing Applications
- Application should be filled preferably in English BLOCK letters.
- Four photographs (Size - 3.5cm x 4.5cm) Coloured identical photographs (white background) obtained within less than 03 months showing full face with visible both ears and the forehead. Without hat, helmet or glasses.
- The signatures of the applicant should be confined to the cages provided immediately below the photographs.
Notes
- Submission of forged certificates or any other documents and making false declaration relating to the citizenship status is an offence. Such cases will be reported to relevant authorities.
- Fees will not be refunded at any circumstances.
- Incomplete applications will be returned and consular fees will not be refunded.
