  • South Sudan was declared as an Independent State on 09th July, 2011. Sri Lanka recognized South Sudan as a sovereign, independent state following its secession from Sudan.
  • Sri Lanka established formal Diplomatic Relations with South Sudan on 25th September, 2013. Sri Lanka Embassy in Addis Ababa is concurrently accredited to South Sudan and the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in New Delhi is concurrently accredited to Sri Lanka.
  • Exports from Sri Lanka and Imports to Sri Lanka from South Sudan have not been recorded for the past few years.

  • Sri Lanka has deployed military contingents since 2014 as part of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The two contingents currently deployed are:
    • Sri Lanka Army Level II Hospital in South Sudan – Deployed by SL Army
    • Sri Lanka Aviation Unit in UNMISS – Deployed by SL Air Force
