Sri Lanka was accredited observer status to the African Union in 2014.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Ethiopia is accredited as the Permanent Representative to the African Union and Sri Lanka’s first Permanent Representative was Ambassador Sumith Dassanayake.
