The Sri Lanka Embassy in Addis Ababa was declared open on 2nd February 2017 by the Foreign Ministers of Ethiopia and Sri Lanka, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu and Mangala Samaraweera, respectively.

The Embassy is also concurrently accredited to the African Union, the Federal Republic of Somalia, Republic of Djibouti and Republic of South Sudan.
